Brewer’s Yard Quarry

Brewers Yard Quarry also originally known as Hartham No.1 quarry this is an unusual quarry on two levels worked around 1880 by William Jones Brewer this is situated on the same side of the A4 as Copenacre Quarry at the crest of the hill called Rudloe Firs. It has a slope shaft and a huge square vertical shaft with a total area of 34,000 sq. ft. Corngrit and Scallet stone was quarried from the upper level and Box Ground from the lower. In September 2017, two large limestone blocks were placed over the cap and quarrying at Hartham Park Quarry in 2018 has intersected these workings and a lot of the historic features are lost.
