Grey Gables Quarry

Also known as Lawn Quarry and possibly Hancock’s Quarry, there was an original shaft entrance to the Grey Gables underground quarry but is now a capped manhole. The access shaft was modified in 2006 to allow its use as a bat incubator routeway.

The new (2006) 2.5m diameter vertical shaft with a 2m high surface ‘chimney’ with external cladding of local stone at the north west extreme of the underground Grey Gables quarry created a ventilation through flow from Grey Gables mine to the Mount Pleasant Quarry. It was dug in 2006
